Wordless Chorus - Strawberry

Wordless Chorus - Strawberry

The theme is “bands that jam” with options that included maybe my all time favorite: “Z” by My Morning Jacket. Now, I—in my musical pedantry—would classify MMJ as a “band that jams” as opposed to a “jam band”, but that’s actually pretty convenient because the drink I made here is a “cocktail with jam” and not, itself, “jam”.

Like the band, this drink is multi-faceted. On its surface this looks like a nice gin sour, but it has layers—man—of flavors: strawberry/mint notes of the jam syrup, bitterness of the Campari, the gin’s spice, and the funky edge of the whey (which also mimics some of the texture of an egg white without getting the actual ovos involved—i.e. wolf in sheep’s clothes action of a rock band that underneath has layers of funk, jam, psych). And as the song Wordless Chorus goes, “we are the innovators; they are, the imitators”

Recipe(s)
1.75 oz Bristow Gin (@catheaddistilery)
0.5 oz Campari
0.75 oz Whey Syrup*
0.5 oz Strawberry Lemon Syrup ( @farmersjamatl)
0.75 oz Lemon Juice
Dash Saline (20% solution)

Add ingredients to shaker with ice; shake/strain

* Heat 2 liters of milk to 185F w/ pinch of salt. lower heat, add 3 tbsp lemon juice, lightly stir until curds develop. Let stand for 30 min. Ladle into cheesecloth lined colander; drain 10 min. Reserve the ricotta (eating). Blend equal parts by weight sugar & whey liquid

On August 12, 2024, Farmers Jam partnered with Adam aka @soundtrackmydrink as well as Victrola Record Players and Cathead Distillery for National Vinyl Record Day. Creators from across the country made a signature cocktail as a pairing to their favorite song from a jam band. Entertaining and delicious. Cheers!
